I am very pleased to announce that another south west school we support has received the MBF benchmark Approved Provider Standard. This is awarded to organisations who run safe and effective schemes. The Coordinartors Ms J Webb and Ms H Bishop worked really hard to develop the scheme in just 1 year to gain the standard. When Ms Webb informed me of their success she said " Thanks so much for all your support and advice during the last year, without which we would have struggled to achieve it."

National Peer Mentoring Pilot

Does peer mentoring help stop bullying?
Youth 4 youth were successfully bid to be the South West Support Agency. Youth 4 Youth has over 7 years experience of delivering peer to peer mentoring within schools and the  community. Youth 4 Youth, is a ‘Gold Star’ funded organisation with Mentoring and Befriending  Foundation’s (MBF) Approved Provider Standard (APS). In August 2008 we successfully bid for the MB F Support Agency status for their anti bullying pilot.

Previously in our work as a Goldstar project in Somerset  Youth 4 Youth deliver training and support to 500 young people in schools and colleges throughout Somerset.  This has more recently included supporting schools to achieve Approved Provider Standard. Successful Coordinator Training has been provided for school staff on a rolling basis. An annual training and good practice event is now embedded into the delivery of peer to peer mentoring across Somerset.   SYVN supports young people to become active mentors through volunteering and recognises young people’s commitment to mentoring by rewarding them with accreditation.

Over the past 7 years 20 schools have received support from SYVN and nearly 600 young people trained as mentors.
